Grade 1s Science Fair at BHJMS!

On April 29th, 2015, the Grade 1s of Beaumonde Heights JMS held a Science Fair to display their great ideas and hard work! The science fair consisted of various types of structures; small, big, strong, weak, etc. Their ideas did certainly not reflect their age, young children barely 6-7 years of age, creating such complex and ideal structures was amazing! I had spoken to one of the Grade 1 teachers, Ms. Suppa and asked her "What's the best part about the fair?" and she had answered that "the way parents are involved in the child's education, and work together to achieve such great results!", and this statement I personally strongly agree with because most of the children I asked about who helped them, they said "my mom" or "my dad", and some even said that their older siblings had helped them. It was a very incredible display, full of great ideas as you can see in the pictures. I would strongly encourage teachers to provide the students with such opportunities more often so they can show the best of them and get the appreciation they deserve!

A Journal Entry- Is Group Work Beneficial?

Working in groups can be very difficult at times because not everyone wants to follow one idea, one leader or one rule. Sometimes it feels very annoying when people keep going off topic and aren't getting work done also if one person goes off topic the whole group gets blamed for it. In my opinion group work is not very beneficial because people easily wonder off to other topics and it gets hard to focus again and individual work gets done a lot better and faster.  The best part about the Terry Fox groups was when we finally were able to get recordings done and be able to present them. The worst part was when members had to keep leaving to help other groups, fooled around, kept using devices, weren't helping to write the script, recording random things and wondered off to various topics.
